Male Pattern Baldness
Thirty years ago I was doing some maintenance in a printing office and I noticed a man who was wearing a toupee. It was a hot day and sweat was running under the front of the toupee, and not from any other part of the head that had natural hair. Until that moment male pattern baldness had been a enigma to me. This led me to the idea that the area of male pattern baldness is a heat loss mechanism that has evolved. It could work in reverse but I will go for the primary reason. It seems that when the hair is lost, the blood supply to that area increases. This fits the notion of heat loss. When ill with a temperature, the first place to put a damp cloth is the head. Thirty years on and my view has not changed. The Male Pattern Evaporator
This is the male pattern evaporator in action. The woolly backed human hunter must have evolved the ability to lose excess heat generated by muscles through the top of the head, instead of cooking the brain. This demo was achieved by burning 200 calories in 20 minutes with an outside air temp of 3C .
